Premier League 20/21 Season Preview

The 2020/21 English Premier League season is due to commence on the 12th of September. For some teams, there has not been much in the way of a break this summer due to the delayed finish of last season. Therefore, both Manchester United and Manchester City have been granted extra time to recover and their opening games have been postponed.

This will be welcome news for the players of the two Manchester clubs but provide an opportunity for the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea to build an early lead in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool have yet to make a move in the transfer window but there have been strong rumours linking them with the signing of Champions League winner Thiago. The Spanish international midfielder would bring additional creativity to the middle of the pitch for the defending champions and add to the strength of their squad. In truth, Liverpool know they do not need to make any improvements to their regular starting XI and it is proven to succeed at the highest level.

In terms of signings, Chelsea have already added striker Timo Werner and forward Hakim Ziyech to their ranks. There are also strong rumours linking them with left-back Ben Chilwell, central defender Thiago Silva and attacking midfielder Kai Havertz. Should Frank Lampard sign all three of these players it would make Chelsea much stronger ahead of the new campaign.

Manchester City have brought in winger Ferran Torres from Valencia and central defender Nathan Aké from Bournemouth. Aké had long been linked with a move to a top Premier League club and with Manchester City suffering defensively last season, Pep Guardiola will be hoping the Dutchman can make the difference.

As for Manchester United, the fans are already be coming frustrated with the lack of movement in the transfer market. There has been no real concrete evidence of any potential incomings and that will be a concern ahead of the new campaign. The trouble surrounding central defender Harry Maguire could also be an issue going into the 2020/21 Premier League season.

The race for the Premier League golden boot is always an intriguing battle. Jamie Vardy finished as top goal scorer last season but is sure to face stiff competition again from the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane, and Sadio Mané.

Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero will be hoping for an injury free season while Timo Werner will be keen to show he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League. Anthony Martial could be an interesting contender to finish as the Premier League top scorer, if he continues to play regularly as the central striker for Manchester United.
